Is your child an occasional or chronic poor sleeper? . It’s super important to ensure your child is getting quality sleep and setting up healthy sleep patterns from an early age. This US study shows the impact of teenagers not getting good sleep. So let’s support and train them early. . A study from Stanford University examined 277 students at a high school in San Francisco Bay Area. The students completed a questionnaire on sleep quality, sleep habits, beliefs about sleep, and daytime mood and functioning. . Based on their responses, 23% were occasional poor sleepers and 11% were chronic poor sleepers. . Occasional and chronic poor sleepers reported being: - Significantly more depressed - More likely to describe themselves negatively - Without energy - Tense/moody/irritable - Less rested and alert than good sleepers. - Showing behaviours and feelings of stress more than good sleepers. . Best to step in early and teach children about good sleep habits, the importance of stable bedtimes and wake times. It will also be good to go check their daytime stress levels as well during this conversation.
